Babylon

The bass shakes the sidewalk before you even spot the door at 145 Calhoun. It's a sticky Friday night in Charleston and the line outside Babylon is packed with college kids sweating through their shirts while the bouncer checks IDs with a bored glare. You hand over your ten-dollar cover in cash because the card reader's down again.

Inside, the room's packed tight and drenched in red light. The air's thick with vape smoke and spilled Red Bull, and the floor's slick near the bar where someone dropped a gin and tonic. It's loud-so loud your teeth hum-and the DJ's spinning heavy tech house that vibrates right through your chest.

There's no fancy lounge upstairs or quiet corner to catch your breath. You're either wedged against the wall near the speakers or fighting your way to the back bar where the bartender's pouring vodka crans in plastic cups at lightning speed. My sneakers are already ruined from the floor sludge.
